Hyperthyroidism usually affects older cats but there have been cases of young adult cats with this disorder. There are a few symptoms to look for:

While several of the above symptoms can be caused by other feline diseases and disorders, if hyperthyroidism is diagnosed by your veterinarian, your cat will probably be injected with radioiodine and/or surgery will be performed to remove the thyroid gland. Your vet might also prescribe medication to treat the condition but only surgery will stop the progression of the disorder.

Only your veterinarian can determine if the above symptoms are caused by a thyroid condition and you should not hesitate to bring these symptoms to the attention of your cat's health care provider.
