        Kidney Disease

Cats diagnosed with kidney disease are usually in the advanced stage of the disease, and it is the most common cause of death in older cats. There are many symptoms and they include:

There is no cure for kidney disease but with a special diet and oral medication, and hydration therapy, symptoms of the disease may be reduced.

Kidney transplantation has proved somewhat beneficial but the family of a transplanted cat must adopt the donor of the kidney. This is a requirement for transplantation. The donor cats are usually chosen from shelters and rescue organizations. Unfortunately these cats cannot say whether or not they want to be donors. Most shelters allow this procedure because they feel the donor cat will get a home. Somewhere down the line, the donor cat may also develop kidney disease!! I will say no more. I think you all get the point.
